It had always been in my plans to do a completely reggae-influenced album. It had also been in my plans to make that album very dark and sad, which was a decision influenced by many of the great depressing albums that I grew up listening to. So when November of 2003 rolled around, I found myself at the perfect place in life to do the album that I had been planning in my head for nigh on two years. I had just finished two bombastically angry funky albums, so that was out of my system, and a lot of generally bad stuff was happening to me. This second part of the equation went a long way into the writing of the material, and played a part even up to the mixing of the album. Some daffy stuff happened to me right before mixing, and I think that comes through in the mix, but maybe that's just me.

This album focuses a little more on melody and flow, and isn't as disjointed and schizophrenic as my ealier work. It being a "theme" album, I needed to keep a solid mood throughout the songs. Overall, it is a very somber, floating, druggy sounding album. This was a very personal album for me, hence the relative lack of studio musicians this time around. Each song has more meaning in it on this album than any of the songs on any of my other releases. I hope that Kajoong will help people get through hard times, as a great many albums have for me.
